 I think ideally, Kirby could be about a search for identity, about who they are when they're not eating someone and taking on their traits. Something about "you are what you eat."

I'm not sure what mashup that would lend itself to. But I do think that's a Flying V sort of thing that could go into a lot of things,

This is not really related to this post, but somehow it made me think of the monologue from A Doll's House (which I haven't seen/read, but Sarah showed me the monologue from), and now it makes me want some sort of A Doll's House/video game mashup about a video game character asserting independence from the player (as A Doll's House is about a wife asserting independence from her husband). I don't know that it'd actually be good, but it seems interesting. Shades of Undertale.

You didn't read it in HS? I guess even people in the same year didn't all read the same books.

I don't know how meta I'd want to go; probably Six Characters in Search of an Author would be one to look at for that kind of thing.

I feel like the cannibalism and identity things are the most interesting but I'm not sure what would be a good literary match.

Six Characters in Search of an Author was the other one I considered making a LARP out of. But I don't feel like it's quite as well known as Waiting for Godot.

Now I'm just imagining Kirby in Silence of the Lambs and it makes no sense.
